In 2024 I was commissioned to do the Black History Month Illustrations for the Black History Month articles at Educationweek.org. For the cover Illustration I wanted to show the joys of recreational reading featuring some young black girls reading books by black authors. I wanted it to seem authentic and natural as if they were reading outside before school began.

I wanted to show an eagerness for knowledge by portraying students and teachers engaged in the information and the people they’re learning about.

In the remaining illustrations I wanted to illustrate a connection between the classroom and the history. Showing the transportive nature of learning and how information and history can connect us to the past.
